The Theatre Company at Hubbard Hall has earned the envy of other theater companies by being able to do so much with such small budgets. Even with full houses, ticket sales do not cover all of the expenses of a theater company and its productions.

To make up the difference, The Company and Hubbard Hall seeks grants, corporate sponsors and individual contributors. Without these generous supporters helping to cover the day-to-day operating costs of a company (facility maintenance, utilities, insurances, administrative services, etc.), TCHH could not exist.

We invite you, our most supportive patrons, to join with these donors who keep the "magic" happening for Hubbard Hall each fall by becoming a Season Subscriber (available August through November).

Each Season Subscriber receives:

  • One ticket to each of the season's four plays
  • The opportunity to purchase additional tickets for those accompanying you at the member price
  • An open invitation to observe rehearsals
  • At $72 for one ticket to EACH of the four shows, you save $28 off the nonmember price!

When Kevin McGuire started the Theatre Company at Hubbard Hall eleven years ago, he had a vision of a company comprised of professionals, seasoned amateurs, students and novices, all producing classics and new plays in our wonderful, intimate, 1878 rural opera house.

Kevin set the artistic standard of The Theatre Company at Hubbard Hall very high.  And now under the artistic direction of John Hadden, our new season promises more excitement and great theater to come.

Behind the Curtain with John Hadden
TCHH Artistic Director

I have long believed that we might resolve our looming problems of dwindling resources, global warming, social divisions and other challenges by gathering together in common spaces, making things together, imagining things together, sharing our joy and sadness and marshaling our collective will—by rediscovering our deepest values together.

When I stumbled upon a Sunday performance of Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya four years ago in The Hall, I was blown away by the depth and skill of the actors and by their rich understanding of the play itself, something I’d only dreamed of finding in these parts, if anywhere. Then, bit by bit, I became aware of the Opera Theater, the Curiosity Forum, the artists’ and artisans’ collectives, the amazing range of classes offered, the Community Gardens, Music from Salem, the Community Partnership, the Farmers’ Market, the Battenkill Chorale, the various clubs, the Village Store and the connection with Battenkill Books —and I realized I had found a place where this was happening.

This community is blessed with staff members who dedicate themselves far beyond their job descriptions, a beautiful theater right out of the American theater’s golden age and an astute audience that asks for superb dramatic works that are not necessarily pop hits. Twelve years ago, Kevin McGuire and his remarkable company of actors started a wonderful tradition in this Hubbard Hall beehive, one that we hope to carry to the next degree of community involvement and satisfaction. The prospect of serving that tradition on a daily basis for the next twelve years or so is something I’ve been looking forward to all my life.

This season we hope you will delight in our actors, discover a handful of great plays with us, egg us on to take madcap risks and keep the fire burning for these wonderful gatherings at Hubbard Hall.

“Then is there mirth in heaven, when earthly things made even atone together…”
