2013-14 INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
Interns with HHOT are typically undergraduates or graduate students who would like to gain professional experience and contacts in a field of their interest.
Housing is provided in Cambridge, NY. Gas stipend is negotiable depending upon internship duties.
References and recommendation letters from this program have helped interns in applying to graduate school application packages as well as programs such as Missoula Children's Theater and the competitive Mass MoCA fellowships, not to mention the job opportunities gained from making contacts with professionals active in the field across the country.
Opportunities may be divided up on an as interested basis (the more experience gained here, the better for you), but include four main categories:
SCHOOL YEAR PRODUCTION/MARKETING INTERN
The duties of a school year production/marketing assistant include organizing and attending auditions locally and in NYC (if possible), responding to audition questions, keeping track of the artists we hire and updating the website with new materials, helping to create and proof letters and packets for individual and corporate donation requests as well as setting up in person meetings, helping to create and proof posters and other promotional materials, keeping track of donations as they come in and making sure all donors are thanked. Assisting with grant research may be a possibility depending on if we are able to share our system. This internship would end up being about 5 hours a week although the workload is lighter or heavier depending on if an event is happening. It is possible to do most of this work without having to be on the HH campus.
Summer internships are full time and include housing as well as a gas stipend.
PRODUCTION/MARKETING INTERN
Summer production/marketing interns will be more hands on in terms of organizing events. Duties will include introducing artists to their housing hosts, giving tours of the campus, creating and sending press releases and constant contact email blasts as well as updating the website and social media pages, organizing poster teams, helping to keep the schedule on track for conservatory students and mainstage artists, organizing the other theater interns and creating powerpoint presentations for the production as necessary.
PROPS and COSTUME MANAGER/ STAGE MANAGER
Duties entails finding props and storing them appropriately as they work in tandem with the stage manager and helping our costumer to fit the cast, sew and iron and organize and store the costumes. It is helpful, but not essential for this intern to have a car and gas stipend is included. In the past this has paired with Stage Manager, but the Stage Manager should be able to follow a vocal score to mark blocking. Stage Manager can stand alone.
TECH INTERN
The Tech intern is also a valuable internship for college students as they assist in the lighting design, build and run light cues for the production. Tech interns also will help to design and build a set and must work around rehearsals and organize the Conservatory students to help where necessary.
