Radon Exposure Health RisksRadon Exposure Health Risks in Washington County Presented by Linda Law-Saunders, Washington County Cornell Cooperative Extension Wednesday, March 10, 2010, 7pm-8pm Beacon Feed Building
Free! Please call 518-746-2560 to register - last minute registrations are being accepted as are walk-ins.
Radon is a radioactive gas that is naturally released in rock, soil, and water from naturally decaying
uranium. It is invisible and an odorless, tasteless gas. While levels of radon outside pose a low level threat to humans, radon inside a home or building is dangerous and deadly. Exposure to radon gas causes more than 20,000 deaths annually and is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers and second
leading cause of lung cancer in the United States.
In this FREE education program, you will learn about radon exposure, prevention, and how testing your home is not only essential, but easy to do. For more information, contact the Washington County Cornell Cooperative Extension at 518-746-2560. Please call by March 8 to pre-register.
Please bring with you a bag lunch, scissors, tape measure, pencil, a small screwdriver and spring-type clothespins. Register early, limited to 12 students! Call 518-677-2495 to register!
Learn to draw still life and the human figure under the enthusiastic coaching of art teacher Gabi Moore.
Combining classical techniques with exercises that unleash the creative process, each participant in this workshop gains essential tools for drawing while
developing their unique artistic expression. Learn
gesture and contour drawing, modeling, shading,
proportion, short cuts to perspective and approaches to composition. Working in pencil and charcoal, the
participant will alternately emphasize drawing
expressively and with control, which will help them gain confidence and joy in drawing. The practical tools gained in this course will prepare you for a lifetime of making art. Gabi Moore taught art at Fordham University in New York City for seven years. She is an MFA graduate of The New York Academy of Art in Manhattan and a resident of Cambridge. The workshop schedule includes set-up and clean up and a short discussion. Participants will bring their own art materials to class. List of required materials:
A Lucky Irish Lad Curiosity Forum: A Lucky Irish Lad with author Kevin O'Hara Friday, March 19 at 7 pm Location: Battenkill Books

Cloud Walking, a dance piece for 12 movers, by Katy Schonbeck, will be performed Friday, March 19, at 8 PM at Hubbard Hall, Cambridge, NY. Schonbeck creates a series of ever-shifting landscapes, intimate interior spaces and expansive exterior ones. Her dancers move through these hauntingly beautiful worlds as we all do in life, sometimes alone, sometimes with a partner, often as part of a larger community. Schonbeck categorizes her work as "elegant pedestrian," familiar movement and relationships that are slowed down enough to be seen and considered. Schonbeck's intergenerational company is made up of local talent, and are more commonly thought of as teachers, woodworkers, mothers, fathers, grandparents, daughters, equestrians, social workers, musicians, sales clerks, fiances and tree surgeons. Their performance in Cloud Walking recreates the diverse, tightly woven tapestry of our families and our community.
Also included in the evenings performance will be a showing of a new
ensemble work by performance artist Stefanie Weber.
Saturday
Choreographer Ellen Sinopoli and storyteller Bairbre McCarthy take
families on a fantastical journey weaving stories, song and movement to follow the footprints of the Celts from Central Europe to Scotland, Wales & Ireland and then across the Atlantic to Appalachia. See and hear the myth of the seal people; the legend of the swans; the adventures of Jack (beyond the beanstalk); the tale of Norouas, the Northwest wind; and, the story of Dagda’s magical harp!
